CVE-2026-96674 Details
Description
alsa-lib through 1.2.16.1 computes combined topology element size using 32-bit arithmetic in src/topology/ctl.c, allowing integer overflow that defeats bounds checks. Attackers can supply crafted topology files that wrap size calculations, causing the decoder to read beyond the topology buffer and potentially leak sensitive data or crash the application.
A vulnerability in alsa-lib versions through 1.2.16.1 allows for integer overflow in the topology file processing. The issue arises in the 'src/topology/ctl.c' file, where combined topology element sizes are calculated using 32-bit arithmetic. This flaw enables attackers to create specially crafted topology files that manipulate size calculations, leading the decoder to read beyond the allocated topology buffer. Such an overflow could potentially leak sensitive information or cause the application to crash.
Users are advised to update to alsa-lib version 1.2.17 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
