Description
A vulnerability has been found in Edimax EW-7438RPn 1.31. This impacts the function formSDHCP of the file /goform/formSDHCP. Such manipulation of the argument submit-url leads to stack-based buffer overflow. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploit has been disclosed to the public and may be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the Edimax EW-7438RPn range extender, specifically in version 1.31. The issue arises in the formSDHCP function within the webs binary, where the submit-url parameter is not properly validated before being copied to a local variable on the stack. This oversight allows remote attackers to manipulate the submit-url argument, leading to a buffer overflow by overwriting the function's return address. The vulnerability can be exploited remotely, causing the device to crash and disrupt normal service.
