Description
A flaw has been found in Edimax EW-7438RPn 1.31. Affected by this issue is the function formLicence of the file /goform/formLicence. This manipulation of the argument submit-url causes stack-based buffer overflow. The attack may be initiated remotely. The exploit has been published and may be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the Edimax EW-7438RPn range extender, specifically in version 1.31. The issue arises in the 'formLicence' function within the 'webs' binary, where the 'submit-url' parameter is not properly validated before being copied to a local variable on the stack. This oversight allows remote attackers to manipulate the 'submit-url' argument, leading to a buffer overflow by overwriting the function's return address. The exploitation of this vulnerability causes the device to crash and fail to provide services correctly.
