CVE-2026-92984 Details
Description
HUBzero CMS through 2.2.32 accepts session identifiers from query strings and request variables instead of cookies alone, allowing unauthenticated attackers to fixate victim sessions. Attackers can obtain a valid session identifier, send victims a crafted link containing it, and replay the identifier after the victim authenticates to hijack their account and access.
A session fixation vulnerability has been identified in HUBzero CMS versions through 2.2.32. The issue arises because the application accepts session identifiers from query strings and request variables, rather than exclusively from cookies. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to fixate sessions of authenticated users. Exploitation involves obtaining a valid session identifier, crafting a link that includes this identifier, and sending it to the victim. Once the victim clicks the link and authenticates, the attacker can hijack their account.
Users can update to HUBzero CMS version 2.4.6, where this vulnerability has been patched.
