Description
Vikunja before 2.6.0 fails to limit archive expansion during data import, allowing authenticated users to cause denial of service. Attackers can upload highly compressed files that expand to tens of gigabytes in memory and disk, exhausting server resources and crashing the instance.
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in Vikunja versions prior to 2.6.0. The issue arises because the application fails to restrict how much uploaded archives can expand during the data import process. This oversight allows authenticated users to upload highly compressed files that, once decompressed, can balloon to tens of gigabytes, both in memory and on disk. Such resource exhaustion can crash the application instance, causing a significant service disruption.
Users can upgrade to Vikunja version 2.6.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
