CVE-2026-91072 Details
Description
The EWWW Image Optimizer WordPress plugin before 8.8.0 does not confine a WebP-derivative file migration routine to the current site's own uploads directory, letting an attacker with Administrator-level access rename or delete existing WebP-derivative image files outside that scope, including, on a multisite network, files belonging to a different site they have no access to.
A vulnerability exists in the EWWW Image Optimizer WordPress plugin in versions prior to 8.8.0. The issue arises because the WebP-derivative file migration routine does not restrict itself to the current site's uploads directory. This flaw allows an attacker with Administrator-level access to rename or delete WebP-derivative image files outside of their site's directory. In a multisite network, this could affect files belonging to a different site that the attacker does not have access to.
Users are advised to update the EWWW Image Optimizer WordPress plugin to version 8.8.0 or later.
