Description
A vulnerability was detected in GPAC up to f1219cde. Affected by this vulnerability is the function gf_node_get_field of the file scenegraph/base_scenegraph.c of the component MP4Box. Performing a manipulation results in heap-based buffer overflow. The attack is only possible with local access. The exploit is now public and may be used. Upgrading to version abi-16.23 addresses this issue. The patch is named 49dee5cad329cfed310c1682703df7daa47df31a. The affected component should be upgraded.
A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in GPAC versions prior to abi-16.23, specifically within the MP4Box component. The issue arises in the function gf_node_get_field, located in scenegraph/base_scenegraph.c. This vulnerability can be exploited with local access, leading to a heap-buffer-overflow read. The problem occurs when the MP4Box application processes a crafted MP4 file using the '-nstatx' option, causing a recursive traversal of the scene graph that reads past the allocated memory of a node.
Users should upgrade to GPAC version abi-16.23 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
