CVE-2026-89146 Details
Description
libp2p-rendezvous through 0.17.1 fails to validate registration TTL values in discovery responses, allowing attackers to trigger timer arithmetic overflow. A malicious rendezvous server can send a discovery response with an unbounded TTL value that causes the client node process to panic when computing the expiry timer.
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in the libp2p rendezvous protocol, specifically in versions through 0.17.1. The issue arises because the protocol fails to properly validate Time-to-Live (TTL) values in discovery responses. This oversight allows malicious rendezvous servers to send responses with excessively high TTL values, causing client nodes to experience timer arithmetic overflows. When the client attempts to process the inflated TTL values, it can lead to a panic and crash the node process.
Users can upgrade to libp2p rendezvous version 0.18.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
