Description
UI misrepresentation in Payments in Google Chrome prior to 153.0.8010.36 allowed a remote attacker to spoof UI elements via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
A UI misrepresentation vulnerability has been identified in the Payments component of Google Chrome, specifically in versions prior to 153.0.8010.36. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to spoof UI elements by exploiting the Secure Payment Confirmation (SPC) feature. The issue arises from a discrepancy between the transaction total displayed in the Chrome UI and the amount that is cryptographically signed and sent to the merchant. Attackers can manipulate this by providing a lower amount in the payment details while overriding it with a higher amount using SPC modifiers, effectively bypassing the What-You-See-Is-What-You-Sign guarantee.
Users can update to Google Chrome version 153.0.8010.36 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
