Description
Improper encoding or escaping of output in CSS in Google Chrome prior to 153.0.8010.36 allowed a remote attacker to potentially bypass web origin policy via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
A vulnerability in Google Chrome prior to version 153.0.8010.36 has been identified, where improper encoding or escaping of output in CSS allows a remote attacker to potentially bypass web origin policy. This issue arises from the CSS Typed Object Model (Typed OM) serialization of custom property variable names, which is not properly escaped before being output. As a result, unescaped HTML metacharacters can survive the serialization process and, if re-injected into the DOM, execute scripts, leading to a Mutation Cross-Site Scripting (mXSS) vulnerability.
Users should update to Google Chrome version 153.0.8010.36 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
