Description
Missing authorization in WebView in Google Chrome on on Android prior to 153.0.8010.36 allowed a remote attacker leveraging social engineering to bypass system access restrictions via crafted network traffic. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
A vulnerability in Google Chrome's WebView component on Android, in versions prior to 153.0.8010.36, allowed remote attackers to bypass content restrictions. This was achieved through social engineering, manipulating network traffic to redirect users from allowed to restricted URLs without proper authorization checks. The issue stemmed from the 'AwContentRestrictionURLLoaderThrottle' not overriding the 'WillRedirectRequest' method, which is crucial for content classification during server-side redirects. As a result, WebView could load restricted content without the necessary interstitial warnings, especially under supervised user settings.
Users can update to Google Chrome version 153.0.8010.36 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
