Description
Numeric truncation error in Media in Google Chrome prior to 153.0.8010.36 allowed a remote attacker to potentially execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
A numeric truncation vulnerability has been identified in the Media component of Google Chrome, specifically in versions prior to 153.0.8010.36. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to potentially execute arbitrary code outside of the sandbox by using a crafted HTML page. The issue arises from the V4L2 HEVC video decoder delegate, which truncates tile size parameters from integer to unsigned 8-bit format. This truncation can create inconsistencies that lead to memory corruption and out-of-bounds data handling in the V4L2 driver, causing GPU-resident scratch buffer corruption.
Users can update to Google Chrome version 153.0.8010.36 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
