CVE-2026-87493 Details
Description
Missing authorization in FileSystem in Google Chrome prior to 153.0.8010.36 allowed a remote attacker leveraging social engineering to bypass system access restrictions via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
A vulnerability in the File System Access API of Google Chrome prior to version 153.0.8010.36 allows remote attackers to bypass authorization restrictions. This is achieved by exploiting the API's permission management, particularly the handling of read and write permissions. When a file is deleted, its read access is revoked, but write access remains. An attacker can take advantage of this by moving a recreated version of the file into a directory they control, thereby inheriting read access and exposing the file's contents.
Users should update to Google Chrome version 153.0.8010.36 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
