Description
Incorrect authorization in CORS in Google Chrome prior to 153.0.8010.36 allowed a remote attacker who had compromised the renderer process to bypass web origin policy via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
A vulnerability in Google Chrome's CORS implementation prior to version 153.0.8010.36 allows a remote attacker to bypass web origin policies. This issue arises from incorrect authorization in handling cache revalidation requests, enabling the attacker to leak cross-origin headers and create oracles based on ETag or Last-Modified responses. The vulnerability can be exploited by compromising a renderer process and spoofing the 'is_revalidating' flag on cross-origin requests, bypassing CORS preflight requirements and access checks on 304 Not Modified responses.
Users should update to Google Chrome version 153.0.8010.36 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
