CVE-2026-86169 Details
Description
Axolotl before 0.19.0 contains a remote code execution vulnerability in the multipack patch path where trust_remote_code defaults to None instead of False, causing the security guard to be bypassed. Attackers can execute arbitrary Python code by crafting a malicious Hugging Face model repository selected as base_model, which is loaded with hardcoded trust_remote_code=True during AutoModelForCausalLM.from_pretrained.
A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Axolotl versions prior to 0.19.0. The issue arises in the multipack patching process, where the 'trust_remote_code' parameter defaults to None instead of False, bypassing security measures. This vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary Python code by creating a malicious Hugging Face model repository that is loaded with 'trust_remote_code' set to True during the model's initialization.
Users can update to Axolotl version 0.19.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
