Description
gonic versions before 0.22.0 fail to validate administrator privileges in the startScan endpoint, allowing any authenticated user to trigger media library rescans. Attackers can repeatedly call the startScan endpoint to force CPU and I/O-intensive filesystem operations, causing denial of service on multi-user instances.
A vulnerability exists in Gonic versions prior to 0.22.0, where the Subsonic API's startScan endpoint does not properly validate administrator privileges. This flaw enables any authenticated user to initiate media library rescans, despite lacking admin rights. The rescanning process is resource-intensive, causing CPU and I/O strain, and can lead to denial-of-service conditions on multi-user instances.
Users can update to Gonic version 0.22.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
