Description
Craft CMS before 5.10.11 fails to validate the admin flag during user registration, allowing it to persist from deactivated admin accounts. Attackers can register with a deactivated admin's email address to inherit administrator privileges when public registration and disabled email verification are configured.
A vulnerability in Craft CMS versions 5.0.0-RC1 prior to 5.10.11 allows for authentication bypass by exploiting the admin flag inheritance during user registration. The issue arises because the admin flag is not properly validated, enabling it to carry over from deactivated admin accounts. Attackers can register using the email of a deactivated admin, gaining administrator privileges, particularly when public registration is allowed and email verification is disabled.
Users can upgrade to Craft CMS version 5.10.11 or later to address this vulnerability.
