CVE-2026-8449 Details
Description
Rejected reason: This CVE ID has been rejected or withdrawn.
A remote memory corruption vulnerability has been identified in Linux ksmbd, specifically within the Access Control List (ACL) inheritance process. This vulnerability allows remote clients with permission to create directories to induce a heap out-of-bounds read and subsequent heap corruption. The exploitation involves crafting a Discretionary Access Control List (DACL) with a malformed Security Identifier (SID) that includes an inflated number of sub-authorities. Attackers can exploit this by creating a directory, applying the malicious DACL through the SMB2_SET_INFO command, and then creating child entries. This sequence can lead to kernel instability, cause a denial-of-service, or potentially allow privilege escalation to execute code in the kernel.
Users can update to the latest version of Linux where this vulnerability has been patched. The specific commit containing the fix can be found in the official Linux GitHub repository.
