Description
The Directorist: AI-Powered Business Directory, Listings & Classified Ads WordPress plugin before 8.9 does not verify that the requesting user owns the post being modified before writing uploaded file references to its metadata, allowing users with the subscriber role and above to overwrite image metadata on posts belonging to other users.
A vulnerability exists in the Directorist: AI-Powered Business Directory, Listings & Classified Ads WordPress plugin, affecting versions prior to 8.9. The issue arises because the plugin does not verify whether the user requesting a modification owns the post being altered. This flaw enables users with subscriber roles and above to overwrite image metadata on posts belonging to other users. The vulnerability is exploited by uploading a file through a custom field in a directory submission form, then using the uploaded file's reference to overwrite metadata on a targeted post.
Users are advised to update the Directorist WordPress plugin to version 8.9 or later.
