Description
mbailey VoiceMode <= 8.10.1 is vulnerable to OS Command Injection. The update_config MCP tool (and the "voicemode config set" CLI) writes a caller-supplied value into ~/.voicemode/voicemode.env without shell-safe escaping.
A command injection vulnerability has been identified in mbailey VoiceMode versions through 8.10.1. The issue arises in the update_config tool, which is also accessible via the command-line interface (CLI) as 'voicemode config set'. This tool writes user-supplied values into a configuration file, 'voicemode.env', located in the user's home directory, without properly escaping the input for shell safety. As a result, maliciously crafted values can be executed as commands when the file is sourced by the application's startup scripts.
Users are advised to upgrade to VoiceMode version 8.10.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. The update ensures that values written to the 'voicemode.env' file are properly escaped, preventing any injected commands from being executed when the file is sourced.
