CVE-2026-71870 Details
Description
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.15.0, a crafted PDF can cause large memory consumption when pypdf/_cmap.py function parse_bfrange parses unusually large source-code or destination-string tokens in a font /ToUnicode CMap during text extraction. This issue is fixed in 6.15.0.
A memory consumption vulnerability has been identified in pypdf, a pure-Python PDF library, in versions prior to 6.15.0. The issue arises when the library's cmap parsing function processes unusually large tokens in a font's /ToUnicode CMap during text extraction. This can lead to significant memory usage.
Users can upgrade to pypdf version 6.15.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the changes from PR #3944 can be applied as a temporary workaround.
