A path traversal vulnerability has been identified in Node-RED's local-filesystem library storage module, specifically in the 'getLibraryEntry()' and 'saveLibraryEntry()' functions. This vulnerability affects Node-RED versions prior to 5.0.4. The issue arises because user-supplied path parameters are directly concatenated into the filesystem path without proper sanitization or containment checks. As a result, an authenticated user can exploit this by including '../' sequences to access files outside the designated library directory. Furthermore, users with write permissions can inject arbitrary files, potentially leading to remote code execution via manipulation of SSH 'authorized_keys' or cron jobs.
Users are advised to update Node-RED to version 5.0.4 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
