Description
Mattermost Plugins versions <=1.1.5 fail to sanitize filenames received from federated peers before using them to construct export destination paths, which allows an administrator of a remote federated Mattermost server to write files to arbitrary locations within the target server's filestore via a malicious filename delivered through the shared-channel attachment sync protocol. A vulnerability exists in Mattermost Plugins versions through 1.1.5, where filenames received from federated peers are not properly sanitized before being used to create export destination paths. This flaw enables an administrator of a remote federated Mattermost server to write files to arbitrary locations within the target server's filestore. The exploitation is carried out by sending a malicious filename through the shared-channel attachment sync protocol.
Users are advised to update to Mattermost Plugins version 1.1.6 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
