Description
An issue in the HS_MonitorApplications() component of NASA cFS v7.0.1 allows attackers to force the processor to reset via supplying a crafted HS.AppMon_Tbl entry.
A vulnerability in the Health and Safety (HS) application of NASA's Core Flight System (cFS) version 7.0.1 allows for unauthorized processor resets. This issue arises because the HS application does not properly verify the origin of event messages before executing privileged actions. Attackers can exploit this by sending crafted event data that is accepted as legitimate, triggering a processor reset without proper authorization.
It is recommended to modify the HS Event Monitoring system to verify the authenticity of event message origins before allowing any privileged actions. This could involve rejecting or quarantining event data that does not come from trusted sources.
