Description
phpMyFAQ before 4.1.6 contains a privilege escalation vulnerability in GroupController::updateMembers() that allows administrators with only group-management permissions to join privileged groups without verification of required rights. Attackers can add themselves to pre-existing groups holding user-management rights and immediately inherit those permissions to modify or delete user accounts.
A privilege escalation vulnerability has been identified in phpMyFAQ versions prior to 4.1.6, specifically within the GroupController::updateMembers() method. This vulnerability allows administrators with only group-management permissions to join privileged groups without proper verification of their rights. As a result, these administrators can add themselves to groups that hold user-management rights and immediately gain the ability to modify or delete user accounts.
Users are advised to update phpMyFAQ to version 4.1.6 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
