CVE-2026-66364 Details
Description
The GOOSE payload parser contains a boundary handling flaw that can be triggered by a single unauthenticated Layer 2 multicast frame on the process bus. When processing specific payload fields, an attacker controlled inner element length may exceed its enclosing length, causing the parser to over read by one byte. This out-of-bounds read reliably terminates the subscriber process, resulting in a denial-of-service condition.
A boundary handling flaw has been identified in the GOOSE payload parser of MZ Automation GmbH's libiec61850 library, versions prior to 1.6.2. This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated attacker to send a Layer 2 multicast frame that exploits the parser's handling of specific payload fields. By manipulating the inner element length to exceed its enclosing length, the attacker can cause the parser to over-read by one byte. This out-of-bounds read consistently crashes the subscriber process, causing a denial-of-service condition.
Users are advised to update to version 1.6.2.
