GNW protocol dissector infinite loop in Wireshark 4.6.0 to 4.6.4 and 4.4.0 to 4.4.14 allows denial of service
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in the GNW (GeoNetworking) protocol dissector of Wireshark. This issue is present in Wireshark versions 4.6.0 through 4.6.4 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.14. The vulnerability arises from the dissector's handling of secured packets, where a 'var_len' field can be manipulated to create an infinite loop. This loop generates excessive output and memory usage, eventually leading to a crash.
Users are advised to upgrade to Wireshark versions 4.6.5, 4.4.15 or later.
