CVE-2026-64592 Details
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: riscv: mm: Unconditionally sfence.vma for spurious fault Svvptc does not guarantee that it's safe to just return here. Since we have already cleared our bit, if, theoretically, the bounded timeframe for the accessed page to become valid still hasn't happened after sret, we could fault again and actually crash. Hopefully, these spurious faults should be rare enough that this is an acceptable slowdown.
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's RISC-V architecture has been addressed, concerning the management of spurious faults. The issue arose because the Svvptc extension does not ensure safe return after a fault, potentially leading to repeated faults and system crashes. The vulnerability required an unconditional sfence.vma operation to prevent such crashes by ensuring proper memory access synchronization. This issue was deemed an acceptable trade-off in terms of performance, as spurious faults are expected to be infrequent.
