CVE-2026-64482 Details
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: gus: check snd_ctl_new1() return value snd_ctl_new1() can return NULL when memory allocation fails. snd_gf1_pcm_volume_control() does not check the return value before dereferencing kctl->id.index, which can lead to a NULL pointer dereference. Add a NULL check after snd_ctl_new1() and return -ENOMEM if it fails.
A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel's ALSA GUS driver. The issue arises in the 'snd_gf1_pcm_volume_control' function, which fails to validate the return value of 'snd_ctl_new1()' before accessing 'kctl->id.index'. This oversight can lead to a crash when the memory allocation by 'snd_ctl_new1()' fails. The vulnerability is present in the Linux kernel stable tree.
The vulnerability has been addressed by adding a NULL check after the 'snd_ctl_new1()' call and returning an error code if the memory allocation fails. Users should upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel where this fix has been applied.
