CVE-2026-64387 Details
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix query directory replay double-free A response-bearing attempt can return a replayable error and free its response buffer. If SMB2_query_directory_init() fails before the next send, cleanup retains the previous buffer type and frees that response again. Reset response bookkeeping before each attempt to prevent the stale free.
A double-free vulnerability has been addressed in the Linux kernel's SMB2 client. This issue arises when a response-bearing operation encounters a replayable error, leading to the unintentional freeing of its response buffer. If the function 'SMB2_query_directory_init()' fails before the next transmission, the cleanup process mistakenly retains the previous buffer type and frees that response again. To mitigate this, the response bookkeeping should be reset before each attempt, preventing the release of a stale buffer. This vulnerability affects the Linux kernel stable tree.
Users can upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel stable tree, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
