CVE-2026-64382 Details
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix double-free in SMB2_open() replay A response-bearing attempt can return a replayable error and free its response buffer. If SMB2_open_init() fails before the next send, cleanup retains the previous buffer type and frees that response again. Reset response bookkeeping before each attempt to prevent the stale free.
A double-free vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel's SMB2 client implementation. This issue arises in the response handling of the SMB2_open function. When a response-bearing attempt encounters a replayable error, it frees the associated response buffer. If the initial SMB2_open call fails before the next transmission, the cleanup process mistakenly retains the previous buffer type and frees the response again, leading to a double-free condition. This vulnerability affects the Linux kernel stable tree.
Users can upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel stable tree, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
