Description
Chatwoot before 4.16.0 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability in the direct uploads controller that allows unauthenticated attackers to create arbitrary ActiveStorage blobs in any tenant account. Attackers can exploit missing authentication checks to resolve any account and conversation, then obtain signed PUT URLs to write arbitrary data to the application's storage backend.
A vulnerability exists in Chatwoot versions prior to 4.16.0, allowing unauthenticated attackers to bypass authentication in the direct uploads controller. This flaw enables the creation of arbitrary ActiveStorage blobs in any tenant account. Exploitation of this vulnerability involves leveraging the absence of authentication checks to access any account and conversation, subsequently obtaining signed PUT URLs that permit the upload of arbitrary data to the application's storage backend. The issue arises because the direct uploads controller subclasses ActiveStorage's default controller without proper authentication, leaving a critical endpoint exposed.
Users can update to Chatwoot version 4.16.1 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
