CVE-2026-62431 Details
Description
The logic to handle periodic Viridian STIMERs performs a division with an unchecked user-controlled divisor value, that can be set to zero to cause a #DE fault.
A division by zero vulnerability has been identified in the handling of periodic Viridian STIMERs in Xen. This issue arises because the logic performs a division with an unchecked user-controlled divisor, which can be manipulated to zero, leading to a #DE fault. All Xen versions from 4.13 onwards are vulnerable, but versions 4.12 and earlier are not. The vulnerability can be exploited by HVM guests with Viridian STIMERs enabled, causing a denial-of-service condition that affects the entire host.
To address this vulnerability, apply the provided patch. For released versions, patches are generally prepared for the stable branches. It is recommended to update to the tip of the stable branch before applying the patch. For version 4.17.x, the patch is available as 'xsa504.patch'.
