CVE-2026-62233 Details
Description
grav-plugin-api before 1.0.6 fails to validate super-admin status in createApiKey, generate2fa, and disable2fa endpoints, allowing non-super api.users.write managers to escalate to super-admin. Attackers can mint API keys bound to super-admin accounts or strip 2FA from super-admin users to achieve full instance takeover.
A privilege escalation vulnerability has been identified in the Grav Plugin API, affecting versions prior to 1.0.6. The issue arises because the plugin fails to properly validate super-admin status in several endpoints, including createApiKey, generate2fa, and disable2fa. This oversight allows non-super users with api.users.write permissions to escalate their privileges to super-admin. Exploiting this vulnerability enables attackers to create API keys linked to super-admin accounts or remove two-factor authentication from super-admin users, potentially leading to a complete takeover of the affected instance.
Users are advised to update the Grav Plugin API to version 1.0.6 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
