CVE-2026-59926 Details
Description
Mistune is a Python Markdown parser with renderers and plugins. Prior to 3.2.1, render_admonition() in src/mistune/directives/admonition.py concatenates the Admonition directive :class: option into the HTML class attribute without escaping, allowing attribute injection and cross-site scripting even when HTMLRenderer escape mode is enabled. This issue is fixed in version 3.2.1.
A cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in Mistune, a Python Markdown parser, in versions prior to 3.2.1. The issue arises in the 'render_admonition()' function of the Admonition directive, where the ':class:' option is concatenated into the HTML class attribute without proper escaping. This flaw allows for attribute injection and cross-site scripting, even when the HTMLRenderer escape mode is enabled. The vulnerability exploits raw user input in the class option, despite the directive name being safely validated.
Users can upgrade to Mistune version 3.2.1 or later to address this vulnerability.
