Description
Pillow is a Python imaging library. From 5.2.0 until 12.3.0, Pillow's TGA RLE encoder reads past its packed row buffer when saving a mode 1 image with TGA RLE compression, allowing adjacent process heap bytes to be copied into the generated TGA file. This issue is fixed in version 12.3.0.
A vulnerability in the TGA run-length encoding (RLE) encoder of the Python imaging library Pillow, versions 5.2.0 prior to 12.3.0, allows for an out-of-bounds read of heap memory. When saving a mode 1 image with TGA RLE compression, the encoder reads beyond its allocated row buffer, leading to adjacent heap bytes being copied into the output TGA file. This issue can be exploited to serialize a significant amount of heap data into the TGA file, potentially allowing for further exploitation.
Users can upgrade to Pillow version 12.3.0 or later to address this vulnerability.
