Description
Concurrent execution using shared resource with improper synchronization ('race condition') in Windows SMB allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges over a network.
A race condition vulnerability has been identified in Windows Server Message Block (SMB) protocol, allowing an authorized attacker to elevate privileges over a network. This issue arises from concurrent execution using shared resources with improper synchronization.
Users can apply the security update provided by Microsoft to address this vulnerability. Security update KB5099539 is available for Windows 10 versions 22H2, 21H2, and 1809, as well as for Windows Server 2019, 2022, 2016, and 2012 R2. For Windows 11, security update KB5101650 can be applied for versions 24H2 and 25H2. Windows Server 2025 and its Server Core installation also have a corresponding security update available.
