CVE-2026-58251 Details
Description
NATS Server is a high-performance server for NATS.io, the cloud and edge native messaging system. Prior to 2.14.0, 2.12.7, and 2.11.16, an authenticated user with subscription deny permissions could bypass a plain subject deny rule by using a queue subscription, because queue-specific deny evaluation could override the plain subject deny result when the queue name itself was not denied. This issue is fixed in versions 2.14.0, 2.12.7, and 2.11.16.
A vulnerability in NATS Server prior to versions 2.14.0, 2.12.7, and 2.11.16 allows authenticated users with specific subscription deny permissions to bypass plain subject deny rules using queue subscriptions. This occurs because the queue-specific deny evaluation can override the plain subject deny result, enabling users to receive messages on denied subjects. The issue arises when users have valid credentials and a combination of plain subject denies and queue-specific deny rules.
Users can upgrade to NATS Server versions 2.14.0, 2.12.7, or 2.11.16 to address this vulnerability. Instructions for downloading these versions are available on the NATS Server GitHub Releases page.
