Description
NATS Server is a high-performance server for NATS.io, the cloud and edge native messaging system. Prior to 2.14.3 and 2.12.12, an unauthenticated MQTT client could cause the server to retain large incomplete MQTT CONNECT packets before authentication completed, consuming server memory while the parser waited for the advertised MQTT packet length. This issue is fixed in versions 2.14.3 and 2.12.12.
A vulnerability exists in NATS Server versions prior to 2.14.3 and 2.12.12, where an unauthenticated MQTT client can cause the server to retain large, incomplete MQTT CONNECT packets before authentication is completed. This issue leads to excessive memory consumption on the server while the parser waits for the full packet length to be received. The vulnerability is now fixed in NATS Server versions 2.14.3 and 2.12.12.
Users should upgrade to NATS Server versions 2.14.3 or 2.12.12, both of which include the necessary fix. These versions are available on the NATS Server GitHub Releases page.
