Description
Improper preservation of SQL mode when renaming databases in cPanel allows execution of SQL in root context.
A vulnerability exists in cPanel and WHM's database management that improperly handles SQL modes when databases are renamed. This flaw allows authenticated users with access to the MySQL or MariaDB database features to execute arbitrary SQL commands with root-level privileges. Depending on the server's operating system and database configuration, this could lead to a complete compromise of the system.
Users can update to the latest patched version of cPanel/WHM. For servers that cannot immediately upgrade, the 'MySQL' feature can be temporarily revoked from cPanel users, which will prevent them from adding or removing databases without disabling existing ones.
