Description
phpMyFAQ before 4.1.5 contains a privilege escalation vulnerability in GroupController::updatePermissions that allows GROUP_EDIT administrators to grant arbitrary rights to groups without verifying they hold those rights themselves. A delegated administrator can exploit this by assigning high-value permissions to a group they belong to, inheriting those rights and escalating privileges up to full administrative control.
A privilege escalation vulnerability has been identified in phpMyFAQ versions prior to 4.1.5, specifically within the GroupController's updatePermissions method. This vulnerability allows administrators with GROUP_EDIT rights to assign arbitrary permissions to groups without verifying if they themselves hold those rights. As a result, a delegated administrator could exploit this flaw by granting high-value permissions to a group they belong to, thereby inheriting those rights and potentially escalating their privileges to full administrative control.
Users are advised to update phpMyFAQ to version 4.1.5 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
