CVE-2026-57452 Details
Description
Vim is an open source, command line text editor. Prior to 9.2.0671, when Vim opens a file encrypted with the VimCrypt~04! or VimCrypt~05! method (xchacha20poly1305, requires the +sodium feature) whose body is shorter than a single libsodium secretstream header, an unsigned length calculation underflows and a subsequent decryption call reads far past the end of the input buffer, crashing Vim. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.2.0671.
A vulnerability exists in Vim versions prior to 9.2.0671 when handling files encrypted with the VimCrypt~04! or VimCrypt~05! methods, using the xchacha20poly1305 cipher and the +sodium feature. If the file's body is shorter than a single libsodium secretstream header, an unsigned length calculation underflows. This underflow allows a decryption function to read beyond the end of the input buffer, leading to a crash. The issue arises because the header length is not properly validated against the body length, allowing crafted files to exploit this flaw.
Users can upgrade to Vim version 9.2.0671 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
