Description
Vim is an open source, command line text editor. Prior to 9.2.0670, get_text_props() in src/textprop.c reads a uint16 property count stored inline after a line's text and returns it as the number of 32-byte textprop_T entries that follow. The only check is a floor that guarantees room for a single entry; the count is never checked against the amount of data actually present. A line that declares a large count while carrying little data causes consumers to read far past the end of the line buffer. Such a line can be delivered through a crafted undo file, leading to a crash. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.2.0670.
A vulnerability in Vim's text property management can lead to an out-of-bounds read, causing a crash. This issue exists in versions prior to 9.2.0670. The problem arises in the 'get_text_props()' function, which reads a property count from the text and returns it as the number of text property entries that follow. The function only verifies that there is enough data for one entry, without checking if the declared count matches the actual data available. This flaw allows a line to be crafted with a high property count and little accompanying data, causing a read past the end of the line buffer. Such a line can be introduced through a manipulated undo file, leading to a crash when the data is processed.
Users should update to Vim version 9.2.0670 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
