AMR-NB codec crash in Wireshark 4.6.0 to 4.6.4 and 4.4.0 to 4.4.14 allows denial of service
A stack buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the AMR-NB codec decoder of Wireshark. This issue is present in versions 4.6.0 through 4.6.4 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.14. The vulnerability allows for a denial-of-service condition, where Wireshark crashes immediately after attempting to play a stream that includes a crafted RTP payload. The overflow occurs when the decoder writes beyond the end of a 32-byte stack buffer, using data controlled by the attacker. This could potentially corrupt adjacent stack variables and lead to arbitrary code execution.
Users are advised to upgrade to Wireshark versions 4.6.5, 4.4.15 or later.
