CVE-2026-56131 Details
Description
libexpat before 2.8.2 lacks handler call depth tracking for calls to XML_ResumeParser from within handlers in cases of a policy violation. Thus, a use-after-free can occur (similar to the CVE-2026-50219 situation).
A use-after-free vulnerability has been identified in libexpat versions prior to 2.8.2. The issue arises from the library's lack of depth tracking for handler calls to XML_ResumeParser, particularly in situations involving policy violations. This oversight can lead to memory management errors, similar to the previously documented CVE-2026-50219.
Users are advised to upgrade to libexpat version 2.8.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
