Description
pnpm is a package manager. Prior to 10.34.2 and 11.5.3, the generic peer-suffix normalizer also stripped parenthesized text from git, URL, tarball, file, and other opaque locators. Approval for one source string could therefore authorize a different attacker-controlled source whose locator normalized to the same value. This vulnerability is fixed in 10.34.2 and 11.5.3.
A vulnerability in pnpm, a package manager, allows for identity spoofing of opaque dependencies. This issue affects versions prior to 10.34.2 and 11.0.0 through 11.5.3. The vulnerability arises because the generic peer-suffix normalizer removed parenthesized text from various locators, including git, URL, tarball, and file. As a result, approval for one source could inadvertently authorize a different attacker-controlled source with a normalized locator that matched the original.
Users should update to pnpm versions 10.34.2 or 11.5.3 and later.
