CVE-2026-54679 Details
Description
jq is a command-line JSON processor. Prior to 1.8.2, on 32bit system, jvp_string_append has a chance of integer/multiple overflowing and then causing a massive buffer overrun. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.8.2.
A vulnerability in jq, a command-line JSON processor, prior to version 1.8.2, allows for an integer overflow in the function jvp_string_append on 32-bit systems. This overflow can lead to a significant heap buffer overflow. The issue arises because the function fails to properly validate the combined length of the existing string and new data before doubling the allocation size. As a result, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a heap buffer overflow, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution.
Users can upgrade to jq version 1.8.2 or later to address this vulnerability.
