CVE-2026-54619 Details
Description
sqlite3 provides Ruby bindings for the SQLite3 embedded database. In version 2.9.4 and earlier, redefining a SQLite function with a different arity frees the previously registered function handler while SQLite may still reference it, resulting in a use-after-free. This issue is fixed in version 2.9.5.
A use-after-free vulnerability has been identified in the sqlite3 Ruby gem, specifically in versions through 2.9.4. The issue arises when a SQLite function is redefined with a different arity, leading to the premature release of the original function handler while SQLite may still be using it. This flaw can cause invalid memory access and potentially a segmentation fault.
Users are advised to upgrade to the sqlite3 Ruby gem version 2.9.5 or later. As a temporary workaround, avoid defining multiple custom functions with the same name, especially when varying the number of arguments or text encodings.
