Description
Discourse is an open-source discussion platform. Prior to 2026.6.0, 2026.5.1, 2026.4.2, and 2026.1.5, a malicious second factor name on an attacker-controlled account was not escaped in the delete confirmation dialog, allowing stored cross-site scripting when an administrator impersonated that account. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.6.0, 2026.5.1, 2026.4.2, and 2026.1.5.
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in Discourse, an open-source discussion platform. This issue affects versions prior to 2026.6.0, as well as 2026.5.1, 2026.4.2, and 2026.1.5. The vulnerability arises because a malicious name for a second factor in an attacker-controlled account was not properly escaped in the delete confirmation dialog. As a result, when an administrator impersonated that account, the injected script could be executed. The vulnerability could be exploited by crafting a harmful name for a two-factor authentication method and then having an administrator delete it while impersonating the account.
Users can update to Discourse versions 2026.6.0, 2026.5.1, 2026.4.2, or 2026.1.5 to address this vulnerability.
