CVE-2026-53842 Details
Description
OpenClaw before 2026.5.2 contains an environment variable injection vulnerability allowing workspace .env files to influence Python runtime selection through CLOUDSDK_PYTHON during Gmail setup gcloud execution. Attackers with repository access can manipulate the CLOUDSDK_PYTHON variable to execute setup through unintended local Python paths, potentially enabling arbitrary code execution.
A vulnerability exists in OpenClaw versions prior to 2026.5.2, allowing environment variable injection that can influence Python runtime selection during Gmail setup execution with gcloud. This vulnerability arises from the CLOUDSDK_PYTHON variable, which can be manipulated by attackers with repository access to execute setup through unintended local Python paths, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution.
Users are advised to update to OpenClaw version 2026.5.2 or later. As a general hardening measure, keep channel and tool allowlists narrow, avoid sharing one Gateway between mutually untrusted users, and disable the affected feature when it is not needed.
